The Association for Paediatric Palliative Medicine (APPM) is a membership organisation which represents all doctors, nurses and allied health professionals working in the field of children’s palliative medicine. It provides support and training as well as vital resources for clinicians such as clinical guidelines and annual conference.
For over a decade, the APPM has published the APPM Formulary. This extensive document outlines the use and dosage of over 100 medicines which are routinely used in children’s palliative care, with notes on side effects, interactions with other medicines and licensing.
For those working with seriously ill children, from neonates to adolescents, it is an invaluable tool.
The Formulary has traditionally been published in hard copy and as a pdf. In 2025, True Colours approved funding to convert the Formulary into an app which will allow users to access the Formulary through their mobile devices. Importantly, this means that any changes to the Formulary will become live immediately, rather than requiring users to wait for the next full edition.
Work to digitise the Formulary will take place over the next few years and we look forward to seeing the next edition available on the new platform.
